Happy Mother's Day!

A poem by Athena Trouillot for her mother

Appreciate

Your mother is always there

and she tries her best to always be fair

Never doubt how much she cares

a mother will protect you like a momma bear

Appreciate her

Your happiness is her number one goal

She will teach you the stop, drop, and roll

Being your mother is her favorite role

Her love, it was you who stole

Appreciate her

Love her

Cherish her

Respect her

Learn from her

But most of all, make sure you appreciate her

Ms. Thomas joined the MCA team to teach mathematics and science in the Middle School and High School classes. Ms. Thomas is originally from Alabama where she attended the University of Alabama @ Birmingham. After joining the Navy and serving her country,
Ms. Thomas then completed her studies at Wheeling Jesuit College in West Virginia. She headed south after suffering the record low temperatures for six winters. Ms. Thomas has been teaching for thirteen years and we are delighted to have her as part of our family. Welcome!!

Big Cyprus National Park
On March 9th, the MCA students and staff visited the Big Cyprus National Park. It was a beautiful day to be outdoors, enjoying the natural wonders Florida has to offer. This visit tied in wonderfully with our studies regarding state parks and national preserves.

Misconceptions

In another attempt to get it right

the caterpillar sheds her skin one last time,

hangs upside down,

and spins violently,

angry at the misconception

in the world.

Solemn silence fills the air but not for long

Creatures once again come to a halt at the sight of the dot

disturbing the silence with talk and laughter.

Creatures gossip sticking to their misconceptions.

The grand entrance is about to begin.

The pupa gradually cleans up

revealing the colors bright.

The creatures of the green sea stare at each other in disbelief.

Graceful and flirtatious

the butterfly begins revealing her true self.

she flourishes out of the pupa,

 this time matching her outfit.

She flows through the green sea in broad daylight

proving wrong other creatures' misconceptions.
